Michigan: Urge the House Committee on Government Operations to support the Puppy Protection Bill!
The House Committee on Government Operations will be considering the Puppy Protection Bill, HB 4838, which would prohibit the sale of dogs, cats and rabbits in pet stores.
Public records show that Michigan pet stores sell puppies from puppy mills with awful animal welfare records, where there is little concern for the health and well-being of the animals. Families who purchase animals from stores are often burdened with pet health problems that can cost thousands of dollars in veterinary bills or lead to a lifetime of medical complications.
During our most recent undercover investigation at a Petland store in Novi, Michigan, our hidden camera captured sick puppies, questionable veterinary care and unsafe conditions. Several ailing puppies were sent back to their breeders, to unknown fates, instead of being given proper treatment. This investigation is just the latest of several we've conducted at Petland locations.
Tell the House Committee on Government Operations that selling puppies in pet stores is inhumane and supports puppy mills. Michigan residents will still be able to get the pet of their choice from shelters, rescues and responsible breeders.
