Nevada: Urge the Nevada Board of Wildlife Commissioners to ban wildlife killing contests
During wildlife killing contests, participants compete to kill the most, the heaviest or even the smallest coyotes, bobcats, foxes and other wild animals for the chance at cash and prizes. After the killing is over, the animals are often dumped like trash. These events are cruel and wasteful, and don't serve any legitimate wildlife management purpose.
Ten states—including Arizona, Colorado, Washington, California, Oregon and New Mexico in the West—have already outlawed wildlife killing contests because they are cruel, unsporting and counterproductive to sound science. Those bans have support from wildlife management professionals, scientists, hunters and animal advocates.
Each Nevadan, including you, has an equal say in how the wild animals in our state are treated. The people who make a game of killing wild animals want the commission to cater to their interests, and to ignore the majority of Nevadans with humane values.
