Wolves need protection now
Wolves are beautiful, intelligent and iconic animals. But they currently lack the critical protections that are essential to keep them safe. Most at risk are the wolves in the Northern Rocky Mountains, where changes in state law allow trophy hunters, trappers and private contractors to decimate local wolf populations.
In response to a legal petition, we and partner organizations filed, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service recently announced that wolves in the Northern Rocky Mountains may need to be protected under the Endangered Species Act. This announcement begins a formal review process. These wolves need protection now or trophy hunters and trappers could wreak irreversible damage on their communities.
