Stop an attack on animals in Florida
State lawmakers are currently considering dangerous bills that would reverse recently passed pet store ordinances and ultimately protect pet stores and their puppy mill suppliers from local regulation. SB 994/HB 849 also known as “the Petland bills” were drafted to be intentionally misleading and appear to regulate the pet store industry but the provisions are unenforceable.
The majority of puppies sold in pet stores come from mills: intensive breeding facilities where there is little concern for the health and wellbeing of the animals. Families who purchase animals from stores are often burdened with pet health problems that can cost thousands of dollars in veterinary visits or lead to a lifetime of medical complications.
